Every time I hear about a coal mining accident I think of this. I guess it shows my age - and how long lethal accidents have been an accepted risk of mining by the workers - the risk that management never takes. Union mines have a much better safety record than non-union mines. That is a fact. So think about that and what it means as far as the human cost of "doing business" the next time you feel the urge to bash unions.
